FINAL GALLOPS
RICCARTON WORK COUNTERBLAST PLEASES COURSE PROPER USED AUSSIE RA SCHOOLED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The final fast gallops for the Grand National meeting were held at Riecarton on Saturday morning. Following an overnight frost, the outside of the course proper provided good going, and the sun shone brightly j for a time but soon disappeared. Counterblast did five furlongs in 1.2 4-5, doing the last four in 49 4-5. Trench Fight ran a mile in 1.43 3- beating Good Passage over the last half in 51 4-5. After giving his mates a start, Gay Rebel, Phenomenal and Ohmaha finisced in that order over six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Mittie did an easy half mile in 52 4-5. Nightcalm, with Montessa as a companion over the last five, ran seven furlongs in 1.32 4-5 with.out being hurried. Pan'ara was in’ front of Slayer and Mount Val over a mile in 1.47. Dictate just beat Roy Bun, with Silver Streak several lengths back, over six furlongs, run in 1.17 3-5. Indian Sun and Not Out took 51 3-5 for half a mile down the straight. ■Catalogue and Astaire were on even terms over six furlongs in 1.17 4-5, the last half mile taking 51 4-5. Night Dress arid Waitaka took 1.32 2-5 for seven furlongs. Master Hotspur and Konneta were mates over a smart six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, and the former was just in front of Aggravate and Lockit in 50 4- for a half mile. Lord Midas took 53 l-ssec. and Lady Don was no match for Fascinator over five furlongs, the last half mile taking 51 2-ssec.
Spanish Lad was several lengths clear of Nigger Boy over seven furlongs in 1.34 3-5, the last half mile taking 54 4-ssec.
Skyrena easily beat Pol Roger over five furlongs in 1.4 1-5, and Gay Parade did half a mile up the back in 50 3-ssec.
