After several consistent displays of :nr.by this season not attended with ic beet cf fortune, the Tokomaru Bay •-nre-ent-atives defeated 'Matakaoa in Tokomaru Bay on Saturday by nine • uinta to six. Tckomaru ’Bay kicked of! against a ■•li(T breeze and from a scrum infringement were awarded a free kick, tout Lv.lhairangi failed to fin'd the uprights. The (Matakaoa forwards took play to fokomaiu’s line and from a scrum the ■ ’ll -was forced. From the kick-off the local forwards u bed play upheld, where WaitHi look a mark under 'his own -posts and found he line on the half-way with a fine 'ck. The local backs then swung into ctic-n, the leather going right through . Tuhou, who knocked on and lost vhak looked to be a sure try.
For oil-side play 'Matakaoa were ■uvilLcd in a handy position for a •'ck. but again Pewhairangi could not in-el the uprights.
Off-side play by Tibbie gave Mata-'-soa their chance and G. Pah urn 'eked a fine goal from 45yds out. — hitakaoa 3, Tokomaru Bay nil. The 'Matakaoa forwards were showing superiority in the line-outs, but the -scrums were fairly even and the
backs were 'throwing the -ball about. Wilsc.r, with a nice straight run, -cut out two opponents, and when a try seemed imminent he gave a forward pars. For iplaying the ball on the ground right in front of his goal a Matakaoa man was penalised, tout Colbert missed the easiest of kicks.
Te Runa and Tibbie ‘.headed a great forward rush, but the (hall went out. From the line-out Te Runa broke through to score a good try. Pewhairangi delayed his kick too the ball touching the opponents. —Tokonvaru Bay 3, Matakaoa 3.
From the kick-off Matakaoa cook play dcwnfield and from a cross-kick by 'Walker looked dangerous. Tokornani were penalised and Pakura kicked c.i easy one. —'Matakaoa (i, Tokomaru Bay 3. Tokcmaru were now attacking and for an infringement Colbert evened the score from 15yds out, the whistle blowing for half-time immediately, liven Scoring to Half-Time From the kick-oil'’Matakaoa attacked hotly, but Griffiths at full-back was very sound, turning defence iti-to attack on more than one occasion. With a good line kick by IManuel. Tokomaru were in a good position, tout Wuititi cleared with a nice kick. The local men wore forcing the pace and iMatakaoa forced twice in quick succession. Te Runa and S. Pewhairangi headed a forward rush, the- latter player diving over, Ilis kick missed.—'Tokomaru Bay 9, ’Matakaoa 0. Matakaoa made one more etrort and were attacking strongly when the time bell rang.
For the warners Tuhou, Griffiths and liikitapu in the hacks and Te Runa, S. Pewhairangi and Tibbie in the forwards all played well. The M’atakaoa forwards all .played well as a team, tout did not get -good- support from their backs, particularly in the
