ITALY NOT KEEN
ALLIANCE WITH JAPAN AVOIDING RISK OF WAR MOMENT NOT SUITABLE DIVERSE JAPANESE VIEWS (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 5, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 4. The Times’ correspondent in 'Rome says that the Italian press almost ignored -the Japanese Ambassadors’ conference, indicating that an alliance was r.o longer desired, as, while it was in the interest of Italy and Germany for Japan to become embroiled with England and France, they had .no desire to run the risk of becoming embroiled in a war as Japan’s allies at a moment which did not suit them. If an alliance is concluded, -it will have plenty of loc-p-holes to save the Italian and German Powers being too far -committed.
The British United Press’ correspondent at Tokio says that the Japanese Government, despite the Ambassadors’ action, stands to its previous decision to undertake only limited commitments, a tussle on this issue with the army leaders is inevitable.
