REMAND GRANTED
CHARGE OF WIFE-MURDER PATIENCE BEFORE COURT CLAVEELEY, QUEST SEQUEL ARREST AT KAIKOURA (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Months of inter se police investigation into the disappearance of Mrs. Harriet Jane Patience, -whose body was subsequently -found on the 'beach- neai Cl&verley -public works camp, reached a climax in the Magistrate's -Court to is morning, when her husband, Artnur John Patience, faced a charge of murder. Patience, of R'osy 'Morn public works camp, Kaikoura, was des'eribed as a labourer, a native of Australia, aged 48. He was charged that, c>:i or about October 4, 1938. gt -Claverley, he murdered -Harriet Jane Patience. Of dark and stocky 'appearance, with broad shoulders. Patience stepped into the dock -wearing a dark blue striped double breasted suit. During the brief proceedings, Patiancc was silent. Immediately the charge was read, Chief-Detective Dunlop asked for -a remand to August 17. Patience was arrested late yesterday afternoon, said the chief detective, and this -would probably be the first adjournment. Mr. R. A. Young, who appeared for Patience, consented to the adjournment. H e made no application for bail.
