VALUE OF SUNSHINE
HEALTH OF BABIES EXHIBITION FEATURE The importance of sunshine in the health of ibalbies was stressed at the provincial conference of the Plunket Society held in Gisborne to-day. Dr. Helen Deem, medical adviser for the society, stressed the importance of sun-bathing for 'babies. Those artificially fed and who spent most of t'heir time indoors required sufficient Kariol, or similar fat ingredients, to provide vitamin D 'for the prevention.of rickets. That 'vitamin could ibe manufactured in the baby’s own. body, however, if given plenty of sun. 'Mrs. E. R. 'Black pointed out that the babies in TheGisborne district could not tolerate the same amount of fat as in the southern parts of the Dominion. Dr. Deem replied that in Dunedin there was no difficulty of .babies .taking more tats than those in Gisborne, Where sunlight was more frequent. At the Centennial Exhibition, a point was being made in. the society’s display of sun-bathing and of the correct way to expose the body to the sun.
