THEFT OF BINOCULARS
MISSED FROM LAUNCH LABOURER GAOLED (Por Preis Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Convicted on a charge of stealing a pair .of binoculars'valued at £23, which were -part of property stolen from a. launch anchored in Mechanic's Bay in December last, Thomas Lan-nin-g Marchbank, aged 49, a labourer with a criminal record, was sentenced to six months’ gaol by Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court to-day. The accused pleaded not guilty. Two witnesses identified the binoculars as having been taken from Alexander Harvey’s launch. A hotel barman gave evidence that Marchbank -sold him the binoculars for £1 10s in December The ipoli.ee said' that Marchbank had a long criminal record and frequented- the waterfront. The police added that there had been many thefts from, launches and other boats lately.,
