Because of the shortage of female labour in the boot trade, a request has been received by the secretary of the Boot Federation, Mr. C. A. Mr. Watts stated he had replied to the Dunedin branch stating that, in the event of .the union being unable lo supply labour and with the consent of workers first being obtained, the federation was agreeable that four hSurs might be worked on Saturdays, providing the annual overtime hours that females were permitted to work, were not exceeded. It was also staled by Mr. Watts that there was an acute shortage of female operatives in other centres, including Auckland. He could place 30 journeywomen in Auckland immediately-, but unfortunately they were not available.
