BOMBAY FUNERAL PYRE PROHIBITION CELEBRATED (Reed. Aug. 2, 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 1. The Bombay correspondent of the Daily Mail says that the riots protesting against the property tax imposed to .meet the deficit arising from the new liquor prohibition, resulted in the injury of 56 persons, including 27 police. A curfew order has been imposed for a fortnight. The prohibition celebrations included a demonstration by 100,000 Moslems and Hindus singing funeral hymns -of the “demon drink,” a figure representing which was burned by school children. A mass meeting congratulated the Government on prohibition. The police, with fixed bayonets, are watching strategic points, with orders to fire on rioters if necessary.
