Twelve inches of snow is reported from districts along the foothills, with five inches at Ashburton borough, while the area between had only three inches. Snow fell in the coastal areas up to three inches. A report from Rakaia Gorge says some drifts arc up to 15ft. Great difficulty is being experienced in saving sheep. On the plains few lambs arc about and no heavy losses of stock have been reported. It is still snowing heavily along the hills, with intermittent hail and sleet elsewhere.
