SUPREME BODY IN WAR

AUSTRALIAN COMMITTEE DEFENCE CO-ORDINATION (Reed. Julv 31, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 30. The creation of a national emergency co-ordination committee, representing all the Government departments and special committees associated with national planning, was announced by Mr. R. G. Menzies, the Australian Prime Minister. The new body will be called the Standing Committee on the Coordination of Inter-departmental Action on the Outbreak of War. Its duties will be to elaborate a system for co-ordinating the action of the defence services Commonwealth departments and State Government activities bn the occurrence of strained relations or the outbreak of war

The Minister of Defence, Mr. G. A. Street, said the committee would be the supreme over-riding authority in 'the event of war.
