EXTENDING PARLIAMENT

NEW DECREES IN FRANCE COUNTER-PROPAGANDA (Reed. July 31, 9 a.m.) PARIS, July 29. The President of France, M. Lebrun, signed 80 decrees, including one for the extension of (the life of Parliament by two years to 1942. Other decrees provided for the formation of a Ministry of Information in order to offset German propaganda, broadcasting control under a central administration to counter Germany’s radio war against France, an. extension pf counter-espionage and the protection of the national defence industries by tariff. The President also earmarked £5,639,000 for the encouragement of larger families by bonus.

The Ministry of Information and also broadcasting will be under the supervision of the Premier, M. Daladier. The director of information will be France’s famous playwright, M. Jean Giraudoux, and the director of broadcasting will be Professor Jean Brillouin.
