McCARTEN’S 115 WINS WATT’S £239,537 IN 40 YEARS (Reccl July 31, noon.) SYDNEY, July 31. The full tally for the season of the former New Zealand jockey, M. McCarten, who heads the list of winning Sydney riders with 87 wins and two dead-heats, was 115 winners, including 27 wins at Newcastle, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Mr. E. J. Watt, with £9565, heads the list of winning owners for the season. He has now won £239,537 in prize money in his 40 years as an owner and is the biggest stake winner in the history of Australian racing.
A Melbourne report states that for the first time in his career, H. Badger headed the list of winning Melbourne jockeys, riding 48 winners and one dead heat. A. Dewhurst was second with 42 wins and Elliott third with 36 wins.
W. Burke was the most successful trainer with 28 successes. F. Hoysted was second with 20 and F. Musgrave third with 16.
