IRREGULAR MOVEMENTS

LONDON BUTTER MARKET DEMAND FOR WOOL (Reed. July 31, 9 a.m.) LONDON, July 29. Butter is moving irregularly with a large consumptive and speculative inquiry on each setback, especially in view of the declining Continental -arrivals. Consumption, is unchanged despite an advance of a penny fin the retail price. The healthy demand for good combing wools at the London sales is not surprising, as Merinos are still cheap compared with the average price over a series Of years. Growers, however, have the consolation that the 1938-39 clips have been cleared and the carry forward balances are on the light side despite tiie lack of normal Japanese, German and Italian support. Some traders consider that crossbred values have overshot the mark.
