HANDLING OF FIREARMS

•NEED FOR INSTRUCTION VALUE OF GUN CLUES PRAISE BY MINISTER t (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day, That every person should be taught to handle firearms properly, in view of the many appalling accidents involving guns and rifles, was an opinion expressed by the Minister of internal AfTairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, at the official opening of the Auckland Gun Club’s new ground and club house at Mount Wellington. “The facilities provided by most of the gun clubs throughout New Zealand afford every boy and girl the opportunity to shoot correctly and the proper management of firearms,” said Mr. Parry.” “There are established clubs in all the principal centres in the Dominion and I am pleased to see that a good number of young men are members. I trust that many more young men will enrol.” Mr. Parry said that gun shooters in New Zealand would not be found wanting should they be required for the defence of their country, and they were now more fit for an emergency than any other section of the community. If a contest were arranged between rifle and gun shots, Mr. Parry considered that the latter would prove superior. It was mentioned by the Minister that three American lady shooters would visit New Zealand next year for the centennial celebrations and he would like to see them opposed by a New Zealand girls’ team.
