Suva and Pacific Airways
The prospect of Suva being used as a port of call by Pacific airliners en route to New Zealand and Australia formed the subject of a reference in a broadcast recently from one of the principal New Zealand radio stations, and residents in the Fiji centre have been stirred to protest. The broadcast is alleged to have contained the statement that among the preparatory works to be carried 1 out at Suva was the blasting out of many lurks’ heads and coral patches, to make way for a safe landing. The Fiji Times and Herald suggests that the broadcast speaker should have consulted an Admiralty chart or sailing directions, which wouicl have shown this statement to be absolutely incorrect. "We have ,a splendid sheltered harbour, most suitable for the landing of a flying-boat,” the article points out
