NOT FAVOURED
RAILWAY FUNCTION INTEREST DIES DOWN (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A suggestion that a further function be held to give the people of the district an opportunity of fittingly commemorating the opening of the railway service is not favoured by the Wairoa Borough Council which, at its monthly meeting, expressed the opinion that the enthusiasm which was so evident on the day of the official opening had died down now. The suggestion was made to the council in a letter from the Wairoa Harbour Board, the Mayor, Mr. 11. L. Marker, stating that it had been thought by the chairman of the board, Mr. J. Ciorkill, that as the members of the public could not be invited to the dinner which was held to mark the occasion they should be given the opportunity of celebrating the event at a public function to be held in the Gaiety Theatre. When the proposal had been read, Cr. L. E. Galbraith said, that he was not in favour of spending any money on such a gathering, Cr. C. R. Sainsbury also stating that he was not in favour of it. Cr. A. W. Archibald said he thought all the enthusiasm was over .now, and he did not consider such a function would bo of any benefit. Cr. Galbraith: Those are my views, too. On the motion of Cr. Sainsbury, seconded by Cr. Galbraith, it was decided to advise the board that the council was not in favour of any further celebrations as it felt the enthusiasm was all over.
