AMAZING PERFORMANCE

MOTOR TORPEDO BOAT SUITABLE FOB DOMINIONS NEW RECORD CLAIMED (Elrc. Tel. Copyright—Unitod Press Assn.) (Reed. July 29, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 28. A new motor torpedo boat, specially adaptable to Dominion coastal defence, underwent official Admiralty trials at Southampton Water. The vessel covered a measured mile ait 46.5 knots, which is claimed to be a record for this type. It was a remarkable performance. The craft -raced- down the course without vibration and was very steady in a cross sea and terrific wind velocity, but conditions on board remained very dry. The vessel Iras fast- acceleration and great manoeuvrability and is unusually -silent. Her range is 1000 miles.

With a length of 65ft overall, the r.ew craft is armed with two torpedo lubes, depth charges, machine guns, automatic cannon, and a smokescreen. The cost is £45,000.
