TENNIS BALL DISPUTE
OBJECTIONS IN AMERICA PROGRESS AT SEABRIGHT DEFEAT -OF AUSTRALIANS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 29, 1 (p.m.) SEA BRIGHT. July 28. The Davis Cup candidates are threatening Ho strike over the 1939 championship tenuis fell. Every ranking player competing at the Seabright tourney with the exception of .Parker to-day signed a petition to the United 'States Lawn Tennis Association asking that the ball be changed for one with a lighter nap, otherwise they declared they would refuse to compete in the eastern championships at Eye. Further progress results of play in the .Seabright tourney are:—
.Men’s Doubles. —’Mulloy and Doeg defeated Crawford and Quist (Australia). 3 —6, 9 —7, 6 —4.
•Mixed Doubles. —Peacock and Miss Canning defeated Crawford and IMrs. Johnson, G- —3, G—4.
Other double's 'team's winning the day’s matches were Cooke and Riggs, Parker and McNeill, and Sabin and MakO.
The men’s doubles match in which the Australians were 'beaten- -was a disappointing display, in .which intermittent rain made the courts slippery. Despite spikes. Crawford 'took a bad fall in the (third set. The Australians, after winning the first set at will and holding the score at 7-7 in. the second, ran into load luck. 'Crawford lost on his service when he netted two volleys in 'the fifteenth game, giving the Americans the advantage.
