After a remarkably rapid thaw of the 'heavy snow of the last few days, accelerated by heavy rain during most of the day, Southland faces the danger of serious flooding during the weekend. The snow om the back country is now melting rapidly and bigger rivers are rising. Mdny small streams already have broken their banks, and it i's feared that a major flood may develop.
