Lord Stamp, sneaking in the House of Lords’ debate on the Finance Bill, vesterday expressed his confidence in the capacity of Britain’s finances, to meet a possible emergency. He «aid that war was not fought by finance itself, but on. the underlying realities of productive capacity. There wc had the advantage. We had a much larger working population, much greater technical efficiency in that population, much finer industrial resources and much greater dav-to-day productive capacity than other nations.
