DOMINION DAIRYMEN MORE PAYING RATES (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day.
Improved payment of county rates and other evidences of prosperity amonig dairy farmers were cited by Mr. C. A. Barrell (Lab., Hamilton), in declaring in the House of Representatives yesterday, that the guaranteed dairy prices had been of great benefit in stabilising the industry. As the originator of a question to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, which had produced a reply that the Government could not overlook political and other evidences of discontent, Mr. Barrell explained that he had not discussed the matter with Mr. Savage, but he certainly hoped that the Government would not shuffle on the proposed plebescite. "Let it be in or out,” he continued, “and ■ no surrender on the thing. Either the guaranteed price as it stands, or it goes out. The farmer Would sooner vote that way than have a lot of tails to the proposal, but if there were no politics in this country there would not be a single word against the guaranteed prices.”
