MAORI SENT TO GAOL
BURGLARY OF STORE
TWO YEARS’ DETENTION
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night
Crimes of this kind in the North Auckland district have been too frequent of late, and too often committed by members of the Maori race, said Mr. Justice Fair, in the Supreme Court, Auckland, in sentencing a young Maori, Waiter Anania, on a charge of breaking and entering a store at Mitimiti and stealing the safe and contents. His Honour remarked that it appeared from the evidence that others were concerned, who had not been found. It had been made
clear that crimes of this kind would neet with adequate punishment. However, it was regrettable that in this case part of the hardship would fall on the unfortunate wife and children.
The prisoner was sentenced to two ■cars' reformative detention.
