Sir,—The present manner of breeding remounts, to my way of thinking, is absolutely wrong. Any * kind of mare is put to these entires provided by the department, and I am certain that thoroughbred mares are no us? for breeding remounts. An infinitely belter system would bo for the department to provide a farmer with mares capable of doing farm work. Many farmers would take two nr more of this class of mare,• and all would be put to a thoroughbred horse, to be chosen by men qualified to select such a horse, preferably an army remount oificer. The horse would then travel the districts and visit the places where the Government mares
