ASSOCIATE OF CHINESE TERM OF DETENTION (Por Pross Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. A young woman who has been associating with Chinese at Mangere, and who admitted two charges of theft, came before the Police Court to-day. The accused, Helen McMullan Logan,, aged 24, pleaded, guilty to stealing a fur coat valued) at £l6, the property of Mary Benson Cannon, and a wallet containing £2O and sundry papers from Chan Gan. In a signed statement, Logan said that since her arrival at Auckland on April 10, the only work she had done was one week in a custard factory. She .went to Chan Gan’s gardens at Mangere on June 12 and left there on June 19, going to other Chinese gardens where she stopped until January 2). She said the Chinese gave her Toney. She entered Chan Gan’s house during the night of June 26 while the occupants were asleep, took a wallet from his trousers’ pocket. The police added that Logan stole a fur coat when she attended a party at Mary Cannon’s residence. Her life had been a sad one. She had no parental control .and for a time had lived with her mother at Lower Hutt Remarking that strict control should be exercised, Mr. J. Morling, S.M., sentenced Logan to reformative detention for a period not exceeding a year.
