BERLIN’S PRECAUTIONS

REFUGE IN SHELTERS CITY STREETS DESERTED (Reed. July 27. 1.40 p.m.) BERLIN, July 20. A full-dress air raid precaution practice lasting for four days, in which the city will remain on a war footing, started this afternoon. In response to the screaming of sirens, thousands of people took refuge in shelters. With the exception of gasmasked policemen and the air raid .precaution forces the city was deserted within eight minutes. .Simultaneously warplanes roared overhead. Antiaircraft guns mounted cn, roof-tops opened fire. The city was darkened throughout the night and was patrolled bv police and military forces.
