SALVAGE DELAYED

STRANDED PORT BOWEN GALE CHECKS TUGS (Per Pra.is Association.) WANGANUI, this day. A strong southerly is still blowing, with rough seas rendering salvage work on the stranded Port Bowen impossible, and the tugs will attempt no more towing until it is possible to take soundings.

The position of the vessel is unaltered 1 except that she .is considered by experts to be more comfortable. Mr. S. E. Gregory, superintendent of the Port Line, came ashore to-day t'o consult with the masters of the four lugs in order to have the gear ail in readiness when operations can be resumed. Because o:f the bending of some pipes it was impossible for the Port Bowen to get up steam and it will be necessary to wait until; the sea moderates and. .the Harbour Board can send out fiexible pines in reserve.
