REMOVAL OF CHURCH

OSMOND ROAD SITE METHODIST PROPOSAL . POSTAL VOTE TO BE HELD A proposal to move the Bright Street Methodist Church to a more suitable site in Ormond road was considered at a representative meeting of members of the church and congregation last evening. The Rev. F. E. Leadley, minister of the church, presided and after a discussion on the matter it was decided to hold a postal ballot on the question. It was considered that in . its cramped surroundings, amongst factories and workshops, the church had been greatly hampered in its work. The Sunday School department, in particular, had been much affected. With the development of the town few homes were left in the neigbourhood of the church and that had resulted in a large decline in the number of Sunday School pupils. The new site, it was stated, would place the Church in the midst of the most densely populated part of the town. Further, there was no church located in the extensive residential area from Roebuck road to the William Pettie bridge. The action to be taken in the matter by the church trustees, who have to make a decision on the proposal, will be guided by the postal ballot, wich is to be held next week.
