SOME UNIONS DOUBTFUL
THE NATIONAL REGISTER AUSTRALIAN OPINIONS (Reed. July 27, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 2G. The Federal Labour leader, Mr. J. Curtin, has issued l an appeal to Australian unionists to accept the lead given them by the responsible bodies of their own movement and to sign .'he national register. He emphasised that as a result of the conferences with the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies, the workers were now secured ' against industrial conscription.
A number oi unions, it is reported, have indicated they are not prepared forthwith to accept the basis of settlement and intend to await developments at the trades council meetings which are to be held in- Melbourne and Sydney in the course of a day or two.
