Import Licenses Advice has been received by Mr. J. C. Patrick, collector of customs at Gisborne, that all applications for licenses to import goods during the second period must be lodged by August 1 A Furious Ride A Te Araroa Maori, Hiki Brown, who bode furiously on a horse thr'ough Te Araroa township on Sunday morning. was 'seen 'by Constable Hynds to career along the fo'otpath past the post office. A short distance further the rider fell from his horse, tout ’-emoun'led 'and later was accosted by the constable, who found him to be wder the influence Of alcohol. In the T e Ai'ahoa Police Court on Monday before 'Messrs. F. W. Hunt and D. T. McNaught, J.P.S, Brown was convicted on a charge of drunkenness and was fined £2.
Te Araroa Maori Sentenced When a football match was in progress on the Te Araroa Domain last Saturday a Maori spectator, Ilera Houkamau, aged 23, single, of Hicks Bay. was observed by Constable Hynds to be under the influence of liquor. When lie w'as spoken to toy the constable he adopted a fighting attitude an'd resisted arrest. Houkamau appeared in the Te Araroa Police Court on (Monday before Messrs. F. W. Hunt and D. J. McNaugbt, J.P.s, and on the charge of being drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner he was convicted and discharged. He was sentenced to two months’ hard labour on a charge of resisting arrest.
