CALLED WITHIN BAR
NEW KING’S COUNSEL CHRISTCHURCH CEREMONY (Por Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. For the first time in Christchurch since pre-war days, the ancient and curious ceremony of calling a newlyo.opointcd King’s Counsel within the bar, was performed in the Supreme Court to-day,' when Mr. W. J. Sim’s letters patent of appointment were received by Mr. Justice Calkin. Mr. Justice North-croft was with Mr. Justice Collar, on the Bench. Mr. Frederick Wilding was the only other K.C. present, but there was a big gathering of the legal .fraternity of Christchurch. Aliter the letters patent had. been presented by the Registrar to Mr. Justice Calkin, the latter invited, Mr. Sim to make the prescribed declaration. On the judge’s invitation, Mr. Sim walked into the front row of counsel’s tables and bowed to the judges and to Mr, Wilding, who returned the bow. The n.cw K.C. then turned and bowed to the junior counsel in the row behind and in the body of the court, all juniors rising and returning his bow. He then took .his seat and the judge asked: “Mr. Sim, do you move?” Mr. Sun replied by bowing and then retired.
