MEMORANDA

The Gisborne Savage Club will bold it? sixth korero in the City Hall on Wednesday evening, when a novel programme of music, mirth and melody"' will be submitted, consisting entirely of excerpts from the operas.

This evening in the Grey Street Hall at 7.30 o'clock Air. Edgar Whitehead. Palmerston North, will give an addic.v-, upon "Unity of Christians." Mr. Whitehead, it is interesting to recall. was present in Gisborne when this hall was opened 45 years ago. He a well-known evangelist and recently spent 1G vears in Australia. The address will be continued again tomorrow evening.

A dairy herd which has produced over 300 lb of butterfa'i per cow for several years in succession will ; he auctioned at Tolaga Bay on Thursday. The clearing sale will be conducted .by the Gisborne ■Sheepfnrmcrs' Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company on account ot Mr. J. P. Guthrie, who is retiring owing to ill health. The herd includes 24 dairy cows, 10 heifers and n pedigree Jersey bulk A number of pigs and fowls will toe sold also, as well as farm equipment and house furniture.

Some members of the Budgerigar Club have suffered considerable loss and annoyance by the action of some person in interfering with the aviaries. In one case a keen member who sutlers an unfortunate physical disability and looks on his birds as a great hobby, had practically all his birds released and replaced with a pair ot sparrows. Another member had 19 geldings released, and other members have suffered minor losses. The club is offering: a reward of £f> for information leading to the conviction of persons interfering with the aviaries of members. To-morrow evening the Gisborne Group of the Left Book Club will hold, in its rooms above the Bon

Accord tea rooms, another of its twice-monthly public meetings. On this occasion the group has been fortunate in -securing the services of Mr. 11. H. Barker, who will deliver an address upon "The Art of Reading." As is usual at the meetings of this group, at the conclusion of his

address the lecturer will answer any questions which may be put, following which the matter will be thrown oner for general discussion, to which the lecturer has, prior to the end of the meeting, the right of reply. Mr. Thos. Todd will be in the chair.
