POVERTY BAY RUGBY TRIP
REPORT BY MANAGER CONDUCT OF PLAYERS DRAW FOR SATURDAY A report on the activities of the Poverty Bay senior representative Rugby touring team was given by the manager, Mr. W. H. James, at the weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union, last evening. Mr. G. H. Scents presided over the fallowing delegate.;:—Bro. Denis, Messrs. W. H. James, T. French, P. C. Edmondson, J. E. Mercer, K. F. Jones, E. T. Brosnahan, and G. J. Jeune. Mr. James said that although the team was unsuccessful'the players had gajncd considerably in experience. 1 nic team had been very well behaved and a fine reputation had been.gained. Bail Weather Handicap In its preparation for matches the team had been handicapped by bad weather. The ground at Pahiatua had been under snow and sleet for several days, and m consequence was sodden and slippery. As a result of these conditins thoe team had been severely handicapped and, all circumstances taken into consideration, had had some difficulty in keeping fit, more especially for, the final game with Wairarapa. The entertainment of the team had been well catered for by all unions visited. Mr. James was thanked for his report and for his services as manager. The sole selector, Mr. French, commented tiiat he was disappointed at ■he form shown by the team against Wairarapa, but appreciated that this was due partly to the lack of consistent training brought about by the unfavourable weather conditions.
Permission to travel to Napier on September 2 was granted to the High School Old Boys junior and third grade teams.
A request for a visit from a third grade team on Saturday next was received from the Tolaga Bay Subunion, a similar request for permission to visit Gisborne being received from a'club in the Opotiki Sub-union. It was decided to advise ToLaga Bay that no team could be sent on Saturday. Tolaga was asked tc suggest a further date. The union decided to invite the Opotiki sub-union to send the team over to Gisborne on September 2. Permission was granted to the Old Boys third grade team to travel io Wairoa for a match on August 5. i A suggestion that a sub-committeo be set up to deal with players ordered off, the committee to be not representative of clubs, was advanced by Mr. Jones, but tile suggestion was opposed by Messrs.
