W.I. BIRTHDAY PARTY VI SI TO PS ENT ER T AIX E D (Herald Correspondent.) Last Thursday afternoon, at the Waima Barracks, the Tokomaru Bay Women's Institute held its seventh birthday party. The president, Mrs. J. Williams, welcomed the visitors, who included a number of members of the Waipiro Bay institute and the focal branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union. The singing of the "Ode" and the roll call, “Sing, Say or Pay,” commenced the afternoon. A Scotch recitation. "Our Birthday," was given by Mrs. Kay, and Mrs. A. N. Wilkins also recited. Two amusing sketches were given, "The Butcher Shop," a sketch without words, played by Mesdames P. Kay and J. Lindsay, and "Desperate Remedies,” the parts of which were taken by Mesdames S. McKee and H. Short. An action song was given by members of the Women’s Division, and Mrs. M. Forrester also sang. Competition winners were: —Sweets: Mrs. A. Malcolm, 1: Mrs. E. Hankey, 2. Jam.. Roll: Mrs. A. Malcolm, 1; Mrs: E. : Hankey, 2, - Knitted Tea Cosy: Mrs. Malcolm, 1: Mrs. J. Williams and Mrs. P. Kay, equal, 2. Mrs. T. Gil ray, on behalf of the Women's Division, presented the president with an autograph book, Mrs. M. Forrester presenting a posy on behalf of the members of the institute.

On the afternoon tea table, artistically decorated by Mrs. N. Newlands with the institute colours, pride of place was given to the handsome birthday cake, with its seven candles. Mrs. S. To Ohaere blew the candles out, and Mrs. Thompson, Waipiro Bay, cut the cake.

Tea hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames D. Powell, S. Doig, J. Corbett, R. Beasley and J. Lindsay.

Hautanoa Library Bridge Parties. The final bridge party for the aggregate prizes was held last Friday evening gt the Hautanoa Library, the winners of the aggregate being: — Ladies: Mrs. J. Williams. Men: Mr. F. Jackson. Winners for the evening were Mesdames G. Mac Kay and N. Newiands, and Mr. F. Bignell.

Miss Iris Stevens is an inmate of the Waiapu Hospital, Te Puia. —Miss M. Armstrong is spending a holiday in Auckland.—Mrs. H. D. Gardner and her two children are visiting Gisborne.—Mrs. Armstrong, Christchurch, is the, guest of her daughter, Miss E. Armstrong. ’
