FORTIFYING ISLANDS

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN ITALO-GERMAN ACTIVITY. LONDON, July 13. Military activities in the Dodecanese Islands, off the coast of Asia Minor, are reported by the Istanbul correspondent of the Daily Herald. German vessels, he states, are continuously unloading military supplies at Rhodes, while the entire population of Patmos and Leros are being compulsorily evacuated. The inhabitants of Dodecanese are mainly Greek, but the Archipelago has been Italian since 1912, before which it belonged to Turkey. It was reported on April 19 that a quantity of Czech tanks and aeroplanes had been received by Italy from Germany, and had been forwarded to Libya and to Leros, accompanied by German technicians.
