AMERICAN DETAINED
BANNED SIDE OF STREET REMOVAL OF HATS (Reed. July 24, 3 p.m.) HANKOW, July 23. A Japanese naval sentry attacked and temporarily detained Mr. !R. A. Baker, paymaster of the United States gunboat Guam, for walking on the forbidden side of a street.
The sentry previously had insisted that foreigners should remove their hats.
