CURRENCY OF CHINA RUMOURS IN LONDON COLLAPSE OF TRADE TIENTSIN BOYCOTT CALL (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 24, 9 a.m.) LONDON, July 23. Reports believed to be correct that Britain, under pressure by Japan, is withdrawing her support of the Chinese dollar, are viewed with the gravest concern by influential City circles, as, .so- long as the Chinese currency is stable, Japan will be unable to consolidate her victories.
The Financial News cites the opinions of City authorities and members of the House of Commons experienced in the Far Eastern trade that unless a watertight AngloJapa.me.se agreement is concluded, the entire Chinese trade is likely lo fall into Japan's hands after the collapse ot the Chinese currency.
A sharp rise on the Japanese bourse reveals -that Tokio has no doubt that Britain has capitulated, thus enabling ia decisive drive to vie toi'.v in China.
A Tientsin message states that a meeting of Chinese decided to boycott British currency and to refuse to sell Sino-Japanese goods to Britain.
