CRAWFORD DEFEATED
BOSTON TOURNAMENT AUSTRALIAN PAIR WIN (Elec. Tel. Copyright—Unih!<l Pross Assn.) (Reed. July 24, 9 a.m.) BOSTON. July 22. In the Longwood Bowl tennis tournament further results were: — Men's Singles.—Semi-finals: Malco tU.S.A.) d. J. H. Crawford (Australia), 9—G, 3—6, 6—2, 6—3. Men’s Doubles. —Semi-finar. A. K. Quist and J. Ciw.v.'jrd (Australia) d. Bill and Chet Murphy (U.S.A.), B—G,8 —G, 3—6, 6—4,
Played in sultry weather, the match between Mako and Crawford was ragged. Crawford was listless and only deft volleying kept Mako from winning in straight sets. Mako, who was experimenting with a new service, sent up easy shots, but Crawford was unable to take advantage of them. He continually netted easy \lrivcs, outeci smashes, and repeatedly dropped his own service. IVlako did not impress and should be an easy victim for Quist in the final to-morrow.
Quist and Crawford entered the doubles final by defeating the Chicago twins, Bill and Chet Murphy, after a lively match. Crawford, although tired, came through magnificently in the final set, when the Americans seemed to be bound for victory. The Murphys played a smart game, their lobs being excellent, but they wove outmanoeuvred on strategic points. Quist and Crawford will meet Mako and Parker, the experimental pair for the Davis Cup. to-morrow.
