WEEK-END SOCCER

P. AND T. TEAM WINS TAXIS BEAT BUFFALOES Two week-end games of Association football were played in Gisborne, interest in the code having been evinced by a number of athletes who have other engagements which .prevent their taking part in League competition matches. In the first of these games, the Post and Telegraph staff team beat the Combined Printers by three goals to one. This was for the Week-end Cup, and the' more experienced P. and T. men had to play their best to avoid defeat. They won by taking ■full advantage of the opportunities that came their way! Ratcliff scored two goals and Ingram one, for the winners, and Barbour notched the Printers’ goal. Mr. R. Johnston refereed the match. On No. 2 ground, Taxis met Buffaloes, and won by live goals to four. The teams provided an exciting tussle-/and it was only the youth of the Taxis’ forwards, in particular, that .stood to them In the sustained

efforts required of them. L. Foley was a tower of strength to the Buffaloes, and his speed and dash were invaluable. He scored all four goals for the losing side. Mr. R. Waugh was the referee in this game.
