ART UNION WINNER

INTOXICATION CHARGE HIT - AND - RUN ALLEGED (Pnr Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. One 'Of the holders of the winning ticket in the last art union. Edward Vernon Reynolds, appeared in the Police Court this morning charged with being intoxicated in charge of a car. Reynolds was remanded to July 23. “This man is one of the ‘Two Drunks’ who won the last art union, and they have plenty of money,” said SubInspector Packer in asking that 'bail be substantial. The magistrate, Mr. E. C. Levvey, said he would fix bail at £2OO with a surety of £2OO.

There would also be a hit-and-run . charge, said the sub-inspector in asking for a remand. Reynolds was in a drunken state and, while driving past the hospital, struck a man and went on. Another motorist started up his car and gave chase, finally getting the number of the vehicle.
