GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL “RECEIVING- ATTENTION” LETTER FROM DIRECTOR \ letter from the Director of Education, Mr. N. T. Lam-bourne, was received (by the Gisborne Hign Scnoo Board -of Governors at its montnly meeting last evening concerning further additions to the school. At the previous meeting of the board it had been decided to point out to the director that the work now in progress at the school haa been approved on a basis of a roll numoci of- 528, whereas the roll this year was 632, and was likely to increase nex. year. The- grounds and 'buildings committee, Dr. Singer, Messrs. Nolan. Tocki and De Costa, reported that it ’had visited the school and rectory la: Monday and had discussed the matter of supplying single tables and chair in connection with the application to’ additional furniture. The rector, 'Mr. J. Hutton, hao pointed -out that single tables arm chairs would -be suitable for 'the neV. rooms, but it would be necessary to have book accommodation ei'hc ■ attached to the tables or by way "or lockers in the class rooms. The committee recommended that the Public Works Department be asked 'to give an estimate of the cost. 'Mr. Hutton drew the committee’.-' attention to the condition of the school yard and it was recommended 'that r. further application be made to the Education Department for a grant to concrete the yard near the workshop block and that the Hawke’s Bay Education Board's architect be asked to prepare an estimate for putting the yard in order inside the quadrangle formed by the new extension. The recommendations were adopted.
