ORMOND NEWS

W.T. FUNCTIONS (Herald Corrospomlen t.) Last Saturday evening another of the series of five-hundred evenings was held by the Ormond Women’s Institute. The prizes were won as follows:—Ladies.—Mrs. Pardoe, 1; Mr.s. Shears, 2. Gentlemen.—Mr. S. Jones, 1; Mr. Nickerson, 2. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. G. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Jones, Mr. and' Mrs. Greig, Mr. and Mrs. Pardoe, Mr. and Mrs. Lovelock; Mesdames Lister, Friar, Stephenson, Bowes, Robcke; Misses Lewis, Cook, Stephenson and Greig. The members of the Ormond Women’s Institute have started on an interesting and novel competition to help pay off the building fund. Each member, by an investment of 2s, lias to raise as much as possible. Mesdames P. Stephenson, A. Lister, W. O. Jones and S. Parsons, in their attempt, commenced a series of euchre parties on Thursday evening. Despite the inclement weather, there was a good attendance. The ladies’ prize was won by Mrs. W. O. Jones, with Mr.s. W. Morris, second. The gentlemen’s prize was won by Mr. A. Sherriff, with Mr. W. Morris, second. The next of the series will be held on the last Saturday in this month. A former resident of Ormond, Mr. W. E. Bidgood, Otnhuhu, Auckland, is renewing friendships in. the district. —Mrs. ,Norcro.ss, who has been visiting her mother in Greymouth, has returned to Ormond.
