WRESTLING CONTESTS

CLARKE AND DOVOVAN OVERSEAS HEAVYWEIGHTS Bookings for the Gisborne Wrestling Association’s tournament in thcOpera House fhis evening indicate a keen interest among the sporting public in the outcome of the principal contest, a professional match between Jim Clarke and Jack Donovan.

These overseas wrestlers are big men and fast, and their records oiler a guarantee that they do not waste any time in the ring. Neither has appeared in Gisborne previously, but their exhibitions in other centres have been highly popular. In to-night’s match, Clarice will replace Earl MeCready. who was scheduled to meet Donovan in Gisborne, but had to break ,the engagement owing to a recurrence of an arm injury.

The amateur bill is full of interest, likewise, and .a special five-round bout between A. Read and M. Smale will toe the feature.
