SPEED OF FUTURE

700 MILES AN HOUR AIR FORCE FIGHTERS LONDON,, Juno 28. Wind tunnel tests may result in Royal Air Force fighters attaining a speed of 700 miles an hour. An official of the National Physical Labratory said: “Engine improvements have made possible a speed of GOO miles an hour, if we, can reduce the air drag. “We are unable to disclose the secret of the fastest Royal Air Force aeroplane, but it far exceeds the published figure of 400 miles an hour. “Aeroplanes of the- future will be of metal, specially treated to prevent skin friction, which we hope to reduce by GO to 70 per cent in air tunnel tests, after which speeds approaching 700 miles an hour will be within practical reach.”
