THOUSANDS DISMISSED
ACTION IN AMERICA
STRIKE ON W.P.A. JOBS
(Reed. July 13, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 12.
Thousands of dismissal notices have been sent out to striking Works Progress Administration employees. This course was adopted after President Roosevelt, despite a move within Congress to restore the union wage rate, ordered that the Works Progress Association Act be enforced.
Colonel Harrington, Works Progress Association Administrator, threatened to “crack down’’ on men who were not striking, but arc adopting go slow tactics. The majority ol the strikers are skilled workers who object to working 150 hours monthly, instead of 50 for the same income.
