MUNICIPAL CONTROL CHRISTCHURCH PROPOSAL Plans for municipal control of the city’s milk supply were advanced a further stage this week, when the Christchurch City Council decided to take steps to put the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Bill before Parliament. this session. The 'bill proposes to give the council power to undertake and control the purchase, sale and distribution of milk in the Christchurch district. Details of the bill were discussed by the council. There were additional clauses to provide for a referendum on the principle of municipal control.

The proposals were opposed by two of the Citizens’ Association representatives, but decision to go ahead with ‘he bill was reached by 12 votes to four, Sir Hugh Aciand and Mr. M. E Lyons (Citizens' Association) joining Labour members in support of it.
