ACCIDENT AREA

FREQUENT MISHAPS ROAD TO MAKARAKA LIGHTING OF STRETCH The number of accidents which had occurred between, the borough boundary and Makaraka was referred to at a meeting of the Gisborne advisory committee of the Automobile Association (Auckland), the matter being raised by Mr. H. H. Do Co,sta. who offered the suggestion that the association should consider the lighting of that stretch of the road, some four miles in length. The expense entailed in a project such as that suggested by Mr. Do Costa was referred to by several: speakers, it being pointed out that it would be questionable whether there was any lighting which could be economically erected mid prove of service in the prevention of accidents. The trouble was attributed by some speakers to the fact that there was no footpath and. no cycle track.

The secretary, Mr. G. Crawshaw, pointed out that in view of the new Lighting regulations coming into force in the present month the matter might be deferred until their effect could be judged, this suggestion being adopted.
