Dominion Finances
Sir, —"Labour" asks whether anyone can inform him of the amount of the London surplus used to pay for traders’ imports, for Government imports, for debt services, and for transfers of capital. I cannot answer this question, and I do not know anyone who can, except the Government. We were told earlier by Mr. Savage that the Government would always take the people into its confidence. If “Labour" cannot obtain from Mr. Savage the information he wan's, he cannot expect mere members of the .general public to know what is hap-
pening. The same remark applies to “Labour’s” statement about the rumors in circulation about Mr. Nash. Why should there be any rumours? Only because the truth has not been told. Government speakers have again and again announced that Mr. Nash went home to re-arrange for £17,000,000 loan and efl'cct an arrangement with England about our exports, etc. it is quite plain from the 'numerous messages received from London, mostly from Labour or Socialistic papers, that Mr. Nash has done nothing about the £17,000,000, but is trying to raise £16,000,000 as a fresh loan. IMvlr Nash had told the people of New Zoalan this before he left, or Mr. Savage were to tell it now, we would know the truth. It is this suppression of facts that leads to rumours, and to uncertainties and fears on the part of mCPI ' W,C ' READER
