ORDER TO LEAVE TYROL
FOREIGNERS MUST GO TOURISTS WITHIN DAY (Reed. July 12, 3 p.m.) LONDON, July 11. The Rome correspondent of The Times says that Italy’s decision to expel foreigners from the Tyrol applies to all foreigners, both residents and tourists, “for political and military motives.” The Italian Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs told the British Ambassador that only tourists were required to leave within 24 hours. A prefect would examine each case among residents on their merits and fix a time limit for winding up their affairs and their departure. An Independent Cable Service message from Geneva states that Switzerland is protesting to Italy against the request that Swiss residents should leave the Italian Tyrol. It is claimed that the request is contrary to the treaty. It is stated that the Swiss were informed that they would 'be allowed to take only their personal linen and a small sum of money.
