STUDIES BRITISH ARMY
GERMAN STAFF OFFICER SURPRISE IN LONDON LONDON, July 5. Surprise is expressed here that, at a time of such international tension, a member of the German General Staff, Colonel Count veu- Schwerin, should be learning something of Britain’s military preparations. Inquiries at the War Office elicited the explanation that 'he is visiting Britain unofficially, and has 'been shown certain military establishments in a private capacity. The War Office made no objection.
The Daily Telegraph points out that Count von Schwerin belongs to the section of the German General Staff’ which devotes the greater part of its time to collecting information regarding British military .preparedness. Last night he saw the London Territorials parading and seemed to be impressed by them. The paper adds that the authorities in normal times supply certain information to accredited foreign representatives if reciprocal courtesies are extended.
