MR. C. E. DANIELL DEAD MASTERTON FIGURE (Tor Press Association.) MASTERTON. this day. The death occurred early this morning of Charles Edward Darnell, aged 83. who had been associated with the public life cf iMasterton for 55 years. ■Born in England, the late Air. Daniell came to New Zealand in 1880 and settled in Mas ter ton, engaging in building and sawmilling, and developed the business to the extensive state it, is to-day. He was 20 years on the Wellington 'Harbour Board and served for four years as chairman. He took a keen interest in 'developing education in iMasterton and for 30 years was a member of the Lands Trust, of which be spent 14 years as chairman. He was on the Borough Council for several years, and was a member of the licensing bench and the school committee, and for many years was captain of the volunteer fire brigade. He was the first chairman of 'the .Solway Girls’ College Board of Governors and first chairman of the technical school, on which he served for a long period. He was a member of the Wairarapa High School Board of Governors for years from its inception. He was superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School over a long period of years, a member of the licensing bench in 'Masterton, and was associated with many other local institutions. 'He leaves four sons and seven daughters.
